Puppets
UNIMA exists to promote the art of the puppet, primarily by:
1) Stimulating, via all possible forms of communication, contact and exchange between every continent and nation;
2) Organizing congresses, conferences, festivals, exhibitions and competitions, or granting UNIMA patronage for these;
3) Helping members of the Organization in the exercise of their democratic, trades union, financial and legal rights within the framework of their professional activity; UNIMA is in a position to make recommendations or submit proposals as appropriate;
4) Encouraging professional training;
5) Broadening historical, theoretical and scientific research;
6) Maintaining the traditions of puppetry while encouraging the renewal of the arts of puppetry;
7) Proposing the use of the puppet as a medium of ethical and aesthetic education;
8) Participating in the work of other organizations with similar aims.

The Union Internationale de la Marionnette (UNIMA) was founded in 1929, and is affiliated to UNESCO. UNIMA brings together people interested in the art of puppetry and in using this art to promote peace and mutual understanding between peoples, regardless of race, political or religious convictions and differences in culture. It organises conferences, festivals and publications and encourages professional training and research.
British UNIMA offers opportunities to attend international festivals and workshops, organises an annual lecture and other events, publishes Puppet Notebook magazine and a Newsletter three times a year, and reports news, events and opportunities on this website.
